"I retired in 2007 at age 76. I thought I’d done enough. We built this
boat as a demonstrator. In 2010 I decided retirement wasn’t for me and I
went back into building boats. It’s a pleasure to build them - and the
crew that I’ve got - some of them have been with me since 1976, 1987,
right out of school and have been working for me through the years.
What we’re building is really a yacht, I think, for the Pacific
Northwest. Our interior accommodations are more extravagant – three
staterooms, three heads, three showers. You know, something you can go
out on and be out there for a month if you want. Our boats are very well
priced in the marketplace because we’re a low overhead, not too much
advertising type of business. I do the books, I run the shop, I do all
of that, which I love to do.
That’s my main aim - to keep me working and keeping me young. To know me
is to come out to my factory and see me. I’m right in the middle of
everything. Even at this age, I don’t do any lifting anymore but I’m
right there showing the men what to do, how to do it, and I just
completely miss all of that. I just had to be working and building. I
like building boats.” - Forbes Cooper
